Companion
/ Homemaker
Companion/homemakers help elderly, disabled, ill, and convalescing
persons live in their own homes instead of health
facilities. Most work with individuals or couples who need
more extensive care than family or friends can provide.
Some companion / homemakers work with families in which
a parent is incapacitated and small children need care.
Others help discharged patients who have relatively
short-term needs. Still others provide 24-hour live-in
care.
Companion
/ homemakers provide housekeeping services, limited
personal care, and emotional support for their clients.
They clean clients' houses, do laundry, and change bed
linens. They may also plan meals, shop for food, and cook.
They can provide transportation to medical appointments
or outings. |

CNA
(Certified
Nursing Assistant)
HHA (Home Health Aide)
CNA/HHA’s provide
personal care services, also know as "hands-on" care
because they physically touch the client/patient. These caregivers
help clients get in and out of bed, bathe, dress, groom, and eat. They also
check vital signs, help with simple
prescribed exercises, and assist with medication routines.
Occasionally they
change nonsterile dressings, use special equipment such as hydraulic
lifts, give massages and alcohol rubs, or assist with
braces and artificial limbs. Some accompany clients outside the
home. CNA/HHA’s keep records of services performed and of each client’s condition and progress. They report changes in the
client's condition to the registered nurse supervisor. A CNA/HHA
may perform any of the homemaker / companion services. |

LPN’s
(Licensed Practical Nurse)
LPN’s have a practical nurse license and are under
the supervision of our registered nurse or a
physician. An LPN. maintains the medical plan of
treatment created by the registered nurse and
approved by the physician. An LPN can also
perform the services of a CNA, homemaker, and
companion.
RN’s (Registered
Nurses)
RN’s are
licensed and maintain clinical records for clients receiving
nursing care. An RN develops medical plans for treatment
and can maintain them or supervise their maintenance. An RN
supervises LPN’s and CNA’s. An RN can manage client
medications and is available on an hourly, shift, or live-in
basis. |

Live-In’s
Live-in service is 24-hour care that can be
provided by a companion / homemaker, CNA, LPN, or RN. The caregiver can provide care available under
his or her licensure as well
as companion / homemaker services. A live-in caregiver must be able
to have appropriate rest time (for client’s that need 24-hour
attention, we provide shift-work care). |
