When it comes to making the right decision about your aging loved ones’ care, there are a number of questions that arise. Many people believe that assisted living facilities and home healthcare are relatively the same thing or at least offer the same services. While they are both cater to seniors, they are fairly different.

How do you appropriately thank a professional caregiver? What words can express the sincere gratitude of a family who observed the hard work of the women and men who cared so diligently for their loved one for so many years? It is as complex an emotion as the relationship between caregiver, client and family is.

There are many rewarding elements to the career of professional caregiver. As a Certified Nursing Assistant, Home Health Aide or Nurse you will impact the quality of life of the individuals you care for. Many will begin to depend on you to maintain the elements of their lifestyles that they value. In addition, if you choose to partner with nurse registries to obtain your clients then you will enjoy the benefits of a flexible schedule of your choosing.

It may be because the change can be so gradual you didn’t notice until the worst happened. Sometimes there could be some denial, as if not facing the facts would make the situation go away. Whatever the reason, declining health isn’t something best saved for later.

Credentialed versus non-credentialed aide

Mary was your uncle’s next-door neighbor. About 10 years his junior, they got along well and bonded over gardening. Sadly, when your uncle fell and needed a hip-replacement last year it was harder to navigate in the yard. As the compassionate person she is, Mary offered to help tend to your uncle’s herbs and vegetables while he was recovering in the rehabilitation center. Fast forward to today and Mary’s care has gone from the garden to that of a companion homemaker for your uncle bordering on almost 15 hours week.
